Your Story Vs Your Credit Score - Ashland Community Federal Credit Union

Your Story Vs Your Credit Score

Your Story Vs Your Credit Score

A Tale of Two Sisters and People Helping People at the Ashland Community Federal Credit Union

Two sisters.

Same hometown.  They could live anywhere.  Let’s say they live right here in Ashland.

Same upbringing.  Same hard-working parents with the same ethics and values.

Both have kids. Both work hard. Both want the best for their families.

But somewhere along the way, their paths split.

This is a hypothetical story, of course.  But one that is all too real.  How do we know?  Because we see its effects every day.  And we’re here to help.

Meet Sarah and Emily.

Sarah works full-time, keeps her bills paid, and takes her daughter to dance class on Thursdays. Life isn’t perfect, but it's manageable. She has a reliable car, good credit, and a decent emergency fund.

Emily is just as determined, just as responsible.  But her son got sick last year. Really sick. She missed shifts in order to care for him. That led to her losing her job. The bills piled up fast, and when the car broke down, there was nothing left in savings to fix it.

She missed more job interviews. Had to take the only car loan she could qualify for, which was super high interest, for an old and unreliable car.  Those maintenance expenses started adding up, and soon, Emily was underwater.

She kept trying, and she never gave up.  She did the best that she could, but every missed payment made the next opportunity harder. It felt like life was punishing her for something she couldn’t control.

Same work ethic. Same heart. But one unexpected crisis put Emily on a different road. Just one. And the system never gave her a chance to catch up.

But what if it had?

What if, when Emily walked into a financial institution, someone listened instead of just reading a credit report? What if someone asked, “What happened?” instead of saying “You don’t qualify.”

That’s what we do at Ashland Community Federal Credit Union.

We’re local, and so we care about those in our community.   Like you’re neighbors, we’ll do what it takes to help you whenever and however we can.  That’s what friends do for each other.  We believe your story matters. Not just your score.

For credit unions in general, that’s what we’re all about.  Where a big, out-of-town, for-profit bank might not be able to help because their priorities might be different, our priority is our local community and making sure it’s as strong as it can be.  That takes everyone, and that includes hard-working folks, like Emily, who may have fallen into some harder times.

We know that life happens.  “Life” can be defined by job loss, medical emergencies, family hardships, home repairs, etc.  These things can happen without cause or warning, and they can turn life upside down.  We know that bad things do happen to good people, and that sometimes, the fallout from one crisis can spiral into years of struggle. We’ve seen too many people stuck in that loop because no one gave them a way out.

That’s why we take the time to understand you.
We look at the full picture.
We offer tools, support, and solutions, not just approvals and denials.

Whether you need a fresh start, a second chance, or just someone who sees your potential even when the numbers don’t, look this way.  Ashland Community Federal Credit Union is right here, with car loans, personal loans, financial counseling, and genuine compassion. If you live, work, worship, or go to school in Ashland County, you’re qualified to join.  We’re here to help you move forward.

Because no one should be defined by one hard season.
And no one should be left behind just because life got messy.  Heck, we’re all a little messy!  Join the club!

At Ashland Community Federal Credit Union, we see people, not just credit scores.

And we believe in walking with you, no matter what road you’re on.
